PARENTS IN A BUBBLE

You know, as I sit here tonight having just watched a movie called "boy in a bubble", I wonder if we as parents are not the ones that are in a bubble, for is it not true that everything our children do, say, think and experience are foreign to us, I always thought that I was very 'hip' as I tried to keep with the times, new words they use, the drugs you can get and the effect they have on our kids, but the more I look at it I think that I'm in a bubble looking out.

Everything seems foreign to me, I'm not so with it after all. I have gone through hell and back with my kids and thought I'd survived it, but the more I look at it, I think I have isolated myself from life, while I was dealing with their problems, keeping them happy, I forgot that I am also a person that need time to myself, to do things for myself. I now find myself unable to live life without them in it everyday and believe me when they finish school, they do not want to see you everyday, my kids have tried to accommodate me, the crazy mom, but I feel that it is unfair to them, because they did not ask me to put my life on hold for them, I did it out of my own free will, and now I have to find my own way back to life without them.

Do we not all suffer from the same problem, we try to guard them against hurt, evil, LIFE, but in the end we find that we have placed ourselves in "A Bubble".
Maybe it's time we stop trying to be there for them all the time, no matter how hard it is, and to think of ourselves, our lives, once they leave the 'nest'.
