Self-Employed Freelancers & Home-Based Businesses: 5 Tips to Locating Competitive Wholesale Products for Your Small Business

by Sheila Newth

I know, so you're finally beginning your longtime dream of selling Online, right?
But you may be thinking "Where in the WORLD do I find super low priced, high quality wholesale products for my specific niche"?

Or perhaps,

"Where the HECK is my competition getting their products from at such incredibly low prices and how can I POSSIBLY compete with them!?" That definitely is the $64,000 question!

If you already have an online store, sell on EBay, or would someday like to, then you probably already know you will need to find the REAL - HONEST AND TRUE - Wholesale sources to buy your products from!

"I KNOW THAT PART" you may say, "BUT HOW CAN I FIND THEM"?

Finding a GREAT wholesale source for your products can be BOTH the most frustrating, as well as the most rewarding, part of an online (or offline) business, but it's 1000 Percent easier when you have a guide to help you along -LIKE ME!

After all, the profits are all in the sources, right?

And YES, finding the RIGHT wholesaler for your product can be one of the most important steps to making a steady stream of profits online!

Today I will give you 5 incredible ways to locate your very own incredible wholesale products that you can use OVER and OVER again to build your wealth online (or offline).

You could even choose to start selling items at your local flea market, your own online store, through local classified ads, or perhaps even open an offline store!

There really is no limit to how you choose to sell products, because if you are getting them from LEGITIMATE rock bottom wholesale sources, you will always be making a steady stream of profits!

"SO WHAT DO I DO FIRST"?

Well, I'm SO glad you asked! Before you do anything else, you'll need to become a legitimate business, and that means getting that business license you may have been putting off forever.

So, honestly, what are you so afraid of anyway?

It's painless and simple to get, and can be the single most important thing standing between your online selling SUCCESS and FAILURE!

So you really need to get one!

"Why do I need one, if I can buy from wholesalers without it"?

That is a GREAT question, and the simple answer is because you are NOT buying from TRUE wholesalers, but are buying from "middlemen".

You are therefore NEVER going to get the lowest prices for your products, and therefore will NEVER be able to really compete online.

Think of it this way: YOUR BIGGEST COMPETITION PROBABLY HAS THEIR BUSINESS LICENSE, so why don't you?

Wherever you live, you should have a city hall near you. Simply type in your city online, get their address, and hours, and get your butt down there.

You will need to pay a little money for your business license, but think of it as a super investment in your business success.

After you get your business license, you will also need to get one more piece of paper to really tie things together and be able to sign up with the most sought after wholesalers: You need your "RESELLERS PERMIT" or "TAX ID Number".

They are both the same thing, but are given various names depending on where you live.

But one thing remains the same: You will need one to buy from true wholesalers.

WARNING: There are hundreds if not thousands of FAKE or NON-LEGIT companies that are calling themselves wholesalers, but they are actually not! These companies are really middlemen and are in the business of making money off of YOU!

They are called middlemen because they get in the middle of you, the "Joe New Seller" and the REAL wholesale companies.

So what they do is take the order from you to buy their "Bogus" wholesale products, and they turn immediately around and buy the same exact product from the REAL wholesale company (and earn a nice hefty profit in the process).

Then they usually have that product drop shipped to you, or maybe even ship it themselves if they have some stock on hand, and you are NONE the wiser.

So be careful. A real wholesaler will ALMOST ALWAYS REQUIRE proof of a Reseller's Permit or TAX ID Number to be able to purchase from them.

If you choose not to get your business license (which I can't understand why you would), you will be stuck buying from these NON-LEGIT companies forever, and paying far more for your products than you have to.

So get your license TODAY! RUN; don't walk to your local city hall.

So NOW you are really ready to start looking for wholesalers or drop shippers to buy your "TRUE WHOLESALE" products from (since you now have a business license hanging on your office wall)!

FINDING SUPER WHOLESALE SOURCES TIP NUMBER 1:

One of the easiest ways to locate some great sources of wholesale products is to visit EBay's very own "WHOLESALE LOTS" section!

It's located here:

http://pages.ebay.com/catindex/catwholesale.html?ssPageName=MOPS5:HWH01

You can find a wholesale product for virtually any category ranging from kids clothes to electric razors to high tech computer components. When I say anything, I mean anything!

You should first research on EBay to find out what is a hot selling item in any category you may choose, and only then go about finding that same product in the wholesale lots section on EBay.

THEN YOU RESELL IT!

Voila! It's really that easy. For example, I saw women's disposable razors were a pretty good selling item awhile ago, and so I bought a huge bulk lot of 500 of the same type of razor for only $30, and then resold it for over $200 ($170 profit!). Not bad, eh??

The real trick is to first research what is a good item to sell on eBay, AND THEN you find it in bulk, buy it, and resell it! It does no good, if you buy a whole lot of something people don?t want, right?

I also found 2 great Ebay research TOOLS to help any Ebay seller hunt down what the next HOT products of the moment may be:

EBAY RESEARCH TOOL NUMBER 1)

To find out what is a "Hot Items" are on eBay, there is a new service on EBay itself letting you know called "EBay Pulse". Check it out here:

http://pulse.ebay.com/?ssPageName=MOPS5:eBayPulse

This is a great research tool to help you learn what is a good item, and when. Do some investigative work at that site and it will surely be paying off for you in no time flat!

EBAY RESEARCH TOOL NUMBER 2)

Here is another great tool to help you find that perfect "Hot Item" on Ebay at any given time. It's called Hot Item Finder.

It can be found at www.hotitemfinder.com .

With this tool, you (as an Ebay seller) can:

1) Get a great idea for what items to sell on eBay

2) Use the popular search term generator to create very attractive auction descriptions

3) SAVE a HUGE amount of TIME at eBay

4) Analyze a particular category to see which one contains the most items

5) Find out how much your competitors are selling their products

6) Increase auction hits by adding popular search terms in your auction descriptions and titles

7) Find products in your market that are selling

You will want to at least do some research on Ebay using those tools. It will be very informative to say the least, and very profitable to say the most!

Stay tuned for PART 2...

DECIDING WHETHER OR NOT TO FREELANCE OFFSITE OR ONSITE Deciding to work onsite or offsite sounds like a relatively simple decision, but it’s actually one which isn’t easy to make. Sure, when you’re lying in bed just after the alarm has gone off and you see that it’s raining outside and all you wish was that you could go back to bed for ten minutes and then do your freelance work from home, working offsite sounds ideal. But there are as many cons to the offsite work job as there are pros and you need to weigh them carefully when making the decision about whether to work onsite or offsite.

IS FREELANCING RIGHT FOR YOU? Freelancing, a term introduced by Sir Walter Scott (1771-1832), is when you work without being committed to an employer. With development of internet and communication technology, there has been a dramatic rise in the number of people going their own way and leaving behind the cubicles. You are reading this book, so you must be contemplating becoming a freelancer, but before you make your move there are a few things to consider.

FREELANCER'S GUIDE TO TIME MANAGEMENT The most common problem that freelancers face is figuring out the balance between work and the rest of life. While there are a few freelancers out there who don’t work as much as they need to in order to pay their bills and improve their business, most freelancers have the opposite problem – they work ALL the time. And that’s why there are a great number of freelancers who “burn out” after a short (or if they’re lucky, a long) time. In order to make sure that you aren’t one of those people who “used to freelance but got burned out”, you need to set limits on how much you work. Then you need to stick to those limits.
