Success seems to be largely a matter of hanging on after others have
let go.
-William Feather
How many a man has thrown up his hands at a time when a little more
effort, a little more patience would have achieved success?
-Elbert Hubbard
If you can dream it, you can do it! If you shoot for the moon and miss
you will still land among the stars! The last statement is paraphrased
from a quote that I can't locate or attribute. Although I don't know
who wrote it, I wish I did. What an honor to know a person who has such
vision!
No, I'm not Pollyanna. I simply believe that if you have a dream, a
goal if you will, and the perseverance to keep going against all odds
you can succeed at anything. At the same time I also believe that you
have to be realistic and take detours if necessary.
We all must consider
the needs of our families while we follow our freelancing dreams.
Consider the following food for thought:
· Only you can build your dream.
· When you think it's time to give up and quit, buy a little
more time for yourself. Extend your "line in the sand" if
you possibly can.
· You can take more than one path to any destination. Some paths
have detours and side trails. Just remember what your final goal is.
· Some dreams take longer to realize than others. Your original
time-line may have to be modified. That isn't failing. It's just updating
your plan.
· Persevere. Remember your dream. But, give yourself permission
to be flexible in the face of small failures. After all, overcoming
obstacles successfully is not a real failure, just a lesson in flexibility.
· Don't use temporary setbacks as an excuse to quit.
· Be proactive. Don't, under any circumstances, sit and wait
for full-blown success to knock on your door and invite itself in.
· Remember that usually the difference between reaching your
dream and falling short is just a matter of holding on a little longer.
"The majority of men meet with failure because of their lack of
persistence in creating new plans to take the place of those which fail."
-Napoleon Hill
May you persevere until you reach your goal and having arrived, already
know your next destination. After all, the joy is in the journey.
